Transition metal bound complex ions containing the chiral analyte are generated by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and subjected to collision-induced dissociation. The ratio of the two competitive dissociation rates is related to the enantiomeric composition of the mixture , and thus can be used to determine the optical purity of the chiral compound. The kinetic method is a rapid , simple , sensitive technique with no wet-chemical and chromatographic steps needed , so it has been widely used in the field of chiral analysis. The theory of kinetic method used in the chiral quantification is introduced and the improvement and applications of it are reviewed.
