The latest developments in the preparation techniques of self-assembled monolayers and their applications are reviewed in this article. The preparation techniques of new important self-assembled monolayer systems, silane/ hydroxylated surface system and thioalcohol/aurum system, and the applications of these systems in film preparation and molecular electronics are summarized.
