Polymer Synthesis in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

This review summarizes the polymer preparation that has been carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide. A number of polymerization reactions, such as the homogeneous free radical polymerization of flourinatedmonomers, the dispersion polymerization of methy methacrylate and styrene, the precipitation polymerization of acrylic acid, the inverse emulsion polymerization of acrylamide and the cationic polym erization of isobutyl vinyl ether, can be conducted in supercritical carbon dioxide. This indicates that a wide range of polymers can be prepared in this environmentally sound and inexpensive supercritical carbon dioxide.
