Favipiravir has a potential therapeutic effect on COVID-19. To provide support for drug research and development in China and macro decision making, this paper analyzes the patent portfolio of Favipiravir, reflects the global patent application trend, reveals the patent barriers faced by our country in the research and development of the drug. Based on the patent data and the method of patent bibliometrics, this paper shows the patent portfolio of Favipiravir from the following aspects: time distribution of patent application, technology direction of patent application year by year, country distribution of patent application year by year, technology direction of patent application in various countries, patent applicant analysis and patent licensing to China. It is found that the basic core patents of Fabiravir are controlled by Japan, the application time of related patents in China is relatively late and the manufacturing process and preparation patents in China are the main, while the application of basic compound patents is weak, which needs to be moderately strengthened.

Darunavir is the second-generation protease inhibitor for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections. In this paper, the domestic and international patent layout and the patent barriers about darunavir are studied with the Pubchem database and the Incopat database, and suggestions for the patent layout and research & development of anti-COVID-19 drugs in China are provided. It is showed that overall, the patent layout of foreign companies is more comprehensive, which has formed a higher patent barrier to the production of darunavir in China. Chinese enterprises can strengthen their patent layout in drug intermediates and drug uses to achieve local technical advantages on the basis of strengthening research ability.
