This paper take SCI papers of Clarivate Analytics Web of Science database from 2004 to 2013 as samples to assess material science of China and major countries through several indicators such as the output scale of papers, academic impact of papers, highly cited papers, international cooperation and independent research, disciplinary layout and so on. The paper is helpful to understand materials science development trend of China and the world. It also can provide basis for the formulation of development strategy and policy of material science and the rational allocation of scientific and technological resources.

With the rapid development of social economy and science and technology, the high-precision demand of time and frequency transfer is increasing, especially in basic scientific research, deep-space missions, modern advanced equipment and systems, and the accuracy and stability of time is essential. Among the available methods of time transfer, time transmission along optical fibers will become the trend of the future high-precision ground time transfer network. This work based on the scientific research articles retrieved from the INSPEC database, data mining and quantitative analysis of the papers on time and frequency transfer via optical fiber research has been obtained by using the statistical tools of the Thomson Data Analyzer (TDA). The number of publications per year, the details of countries and research institutes, research focus and the subject categories were analyzed. The objectives of this paper were to assess the industry development scheme in this field and to provide directions for potential research in the future.

As a new powerful technique for nanomaterials fabrication, laser ablation in liquids (LAL) has experienced a fast development from primary fundamental principle to new materials design and exploration in applications of energy, biomedical and environmental science. Here, on the basis of the database of Web of Science, we apply the principles of bibliometrics to understand the developing trend and hot topics in LAL field. From 1998 to 2016, the major publishing countries, paper counts, research subjects, research units, the most cited papers etc., were acquired and analyzed in this paper. The recent hot and main studying topics have also been concluded and prospected. It is believed that this contribution definitely do great favor to broad readers to capture the main development trends and research essentials.

In recent years, the number of patents in China has been increasing and the patent has been developing. However, the data of China withdrawn patent application without fees in 2011-2015 shows that there were 7 patent applications were withdrawn without fees in every 100 patent applications received by patent office and 9 in every 100 patent applications for invention. In addition, some provinces’ quantities of patent application received by patent office are in the leading position in China, but their quantity and rate of withdrawn patent application without fees are higher than the national average. Meanwhile, some provinces’ quantities of patent application are relatively low, but their rates of withdrawn patent application without fees are relatively high. Certain problems should be addressed by improving and adjusting relevant policies.

Based on Derwent Innovations Index (DII) database in Web of Science, relevant patents on fuel cell vehicles(FCVs) were collected, and analyzed by bibliometric methods, with the aid of Thomson Data Analyzer, Origin and other tools. Through bibliometric, the research history and trend of international fuel cell vehicles were analyzed, and research hot spot and frontiers were mined also, which could provide sound foundation for researchers and policy- makers.
