From a perspective of research output, this paper using bibliometric methods analyzes the following aspects for the field of Resource and Environment Management: overall output, international collaborations, distribution of keywords and journals, interdisciplinary, research topics and hot topics, and funding papers, based on publications in Clarivate Analytics's Web of Science database, in order to reveal the development trend of China and its international competitiveness in this field, and to provide references to policy formulation for Chinese government. Combining bibliometric data with experts’ views, the results show that, China is quite competitive in this field, ranking as the TOP 1 country in publication volume, academic impact and the output of highly cited papers. Additionally, China is relatively active in international collaboration and the research funding of which, especially funding from NSFC, is also effective in this field.
From a perspective of research output, this paper using bibliometric methods analyzes the following aspects for the field of Science, Technology and Innovation Management and Policy: overall output, international collaborations, distribution of keywords and journals, interdisciplinary, research topics and hot topics, and funding papers, based on publications in Clarivate Analytics's Web of Science database. Combining experts’ views with bibliometric results, this paper aims to reveal the development trend of China and its international competitiveness in this field, and to provide references to policy formulation for Chinese government. The results show that, China shows potential in development in this field, with a fast progress in publication volume, academic impact and the output of highly cited papers. China ranks at 13th, 15th, 18th in the above three aspects respectively in 2009, and ranks at 2nd, 3rd, 7th in 2019, approaching the world center stage. In additional, China is relatively active in international collaboration and the research funding of which, especially funding from NSFC, is also effective to some extent in this field.
Machine learning is one of the technologies in the field of artificial intelligence that draws the most attention. In order to reveal the competition situation of machine learning technology, based on the global machine learning patent data since 2000, this paper carries out the research from two aspects of overall technology and typical branch technology, and the analysis dimensions include patent application trend analysis, the analysis of patents with valid legal status, the analysis of patent applications in the past three years, quadrilateral patent analysis and so on. The results show that: the global patent application of machine learning technology is on the rise as a whole; China's machine learning patent application has some advantages, but the patent application mainly focuses on domestic protection; there is still a gap between China and the United States, Japan and South Korea in terms of overseas patent application.
In recent years, Artificial Intelligence has made rapid progress in R&D and industrial application, which has also put forward new demands and challenges for computing chips. Deep learning algorithms need to train massive data and have a high requirement on the ability of large-scale parallel computing. However, the traditional computing architecture cannot support the demand of large-scale computing, so the AI chip of the new architecture develops rapidly. Taking patent literature as the analysis object, this paper analyzes the patents of AI chip, GPU, FPGA and other sub-fields from four perspectives, namely, patent situation, country/region of origin, patent applicant and high-value patent, to reveal the global AI chip patent technology layout situation and competition pattern, and provide reference and support for China's Artificial Intelligence and AI chip technology research and development layout.
Computer vision technology is one of the most popular research fields in the field of artificial intelligence. This paper is aimed at revealing the objective needs of the layout of computer vision technology patents. Based on the computer vision patent data laid out since 2000 on a global scale, this paper carries out the patent analysis of computer vision from overall technology and typical branch technologies, and the overall patent layout, valid patent holdings, the patent layout of the past three years and the four-party patent layout are analyzed. The research found that the overall layout of global computer vision technology patents is increasing. China has obvious advantages in computer vision patents, but the patent layout is mainly in the domestic market, and the number of effective patent holdings is not prominent enough. China has certain advantages in biometric technology.
Natural language processing is an important research direction of artificial intelligence, and has been widely applied to various fields and industries. In order to reveal the competition situation of natural language processing technologies, based on the global natural language processing patent data since 2000, this paper carries out the research from two aspects of overall technology and typical branch technology, and the analysis dimensions include patent application trend analysis, the analysis of patents with valid legal status, the analysis of patent applications in the past three years, and quadrilateral patent analysis. The results show that: China, the United States, Japan and South Korea are the main patent application countries; among them, China's patent application shows the most noticeable growth, and keeps a growth trend; the United States holds the largest number of patents with valid legal status; the United States and Japan have an obvious advantage in quadrilateral patent applications.
Speech processing is a general term used to study the process of speech production, statistical characteristics of speech signals, automatic speech recognition, machine synthesis, and speech perception. Taking patent literature as the analysis object, this paper analyzes the patents of speech processing and speech recognition from six perspectives: patent application trends, patent layout countries/regions, patent application agencies, valid patents, patents in the past three years, and four-party patents. It reveals the global speech processing patent technology layout situation and competition pattern, and provides reference for China's Artificial Intelligence and speech processing technology research and development layout. The results show that: the global patent application of speech processing technology is on the rise as a whole; China's speech processing patent application has some advantages, but the patent application mainly focuses on domestic protection; there is still a gap between China and the United States, Japan and South Korea in terms of overseas patent application.
