Based on the WoS database provided by Clarivate Analytics, the study focused on two dimensions of research scale and efficiency; and evaluated the research performance of Chinese academic publications. The statistics results showed that: only second to the USA in terms of research scale, China has successfully maintained its high-ranking position in 2015. This, however, does not necessarily mean that China has been a science power, with respect to research efficiency-ranked 12th in the world, which revealed a noticeable gap between China and developed countries. China should focus more on the improvement of the research efficiency.

This paper aims to measure the impact of major countries in the field of astronomy based on international collaboration network. Firstly, the two dimensions were defined as amplitude and intensity to describe the impact for countries within collaboration network. Then on the basis of weighted network centrality algorithm, this paper designed a combined index (amplitude and intensity) to evaluate the impact of the country in collaboration network. The main conclusions of this study is below: (1)International collaboration is the main research pattern in astronomy field; (2)For Chile, South Africa, constructing large astronomical facilities is the shortcut to come into the academic community rapidly; (3)International collaboration in the field of astronomy developed from two parallel directions- amplitude and intensity; (4)Though Chinese researchers participated more international collaborations, compare to other developed countries, the international collaboration need to be continued strengthen.
