This paper reviews the current academic thinking on knowledge transfer channels between universities and private industry, from a human resource perspective. It also offers a general framework for “re-organising” the literature, so as to identify gaps in the understanding of organizational behavior and human resource management for university-industry knowledge transfer. The review highlights that knowledge transfer channels with highest “relational intensity” are also most valued by industry, and that most knowledge transfer channels are not currently institutionalized or formalized. It concludes that knowledge transfer between universities and industry is characterized by important management challenges, which require an understanding of the extent and nature of individuals’ involvement. However, the existing literature emphasises the outcomes rather than processes of knowledge transfer. Future research looking at knowledge transfer processes at the individual and organizational level of analysis would provide valuable information for better policy-making.

Based on SCI papers in Thomson Reuters’s Web of Science database, this report uses bibliometric method to assess the development trends of chemical sciences in China and the whole world during 2001 to 2010. The report analyzes the aspects of disciplinary structure, quality of research, highly cited papers, international collaboration, and disciplinary layout. The paper aims to compare the strength of China with the developed countries, reveal the development trend of Chinese chemistry and its international competitiveness, and provide references to chemistry policy formulation for Chinese government.

In light of the growing environmental concern that has driven research on the use of renewable energies in many countries, the present paper studies Spanish and Chinese scientific papers published on the subject. Bibliometric techniques were used to analyse the papers listed in the Web of Science in 2003-2012. The papers co-authored by the two countries and the bibliographic references cited in those papers were used to establish the subject areas of interest and the institutions engaging in such research. While fairly few co-authored papers were identified, a rise in their numbers was observed over time. Multi-dimensional social network analysis based on bibliographic communities defined by bibliographic coupling was deployed to identify the subjects of greatest interest and the institutions, primarily universities, associated with research in the areas in question.

Based on the International Nuclear Information System (INIS) database, quantitative analysis of the publications on reprocessing technologies is provided during the years of 1955-2012. Distribution characteristics of time, countries and institutions are analyzed. Results show that among the countries contributing to reprocessing research, USA is the forerunner followed by Japan, France, UK, Germany, Russia and India. Among the most productive organizations in this field, the top 5 are Japan Atomic Energy Agency,French Atomic Energy Commission, Karlsruhe Research Center in Germany, USDOE Oak Ridge National Laboratory and India Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Based on Zipf's law, 89 high-frequency keywords in these literatures are obtained. These keywords reveal that the reprocessing researches focus on the evolutionary technologies based on aqueous separation (PUREX) and the “dry” technologies involved pyrochemical process, electrorefining process, and electrometallurgy process.

While encountering the complex and grim economic situation in 2012, China had a stable increase of the number of invention patent applications received and granted, as well as the improvement of the inner structure based on the innovation driven economy developing pattern. The total amount of invention patent granted by SIPO exceeded 1 million historically, which made China the fastest country to achieve this goal; along with the strengthening of patent technology power in whole, the status of domestic enterprises as the main body of innovation had been consolidated. Furthermore, the phenomenon of imbalanced distribution of invention patent between middle-west area and east area still exists, and China needs to further develop patent technologies in some key fields.
