The Nobel Prize and the seven international S&T awards that are regarded as “Nobel Prize” in several
fields have been analyzed. The results show that these major awards are closely related to the Noble Prize. USA
predominates in these awards and the amount of awards that have gone to Japan and Russia respectively is increased.
It also shows the amount of international S&T awards that China obtained in the five years of 1999-2003 exceeded
the total number in the fifteen years of 1984-1998, but the quantity is still far behind the developed countries.

Based on JCR journal categories provided by ISI, the author took the articles published in mathematics
interdisciplinary journals during the five year period of 2000-2004 as data sources. The quantity distribution,
international cooperation characteristics among 16 countries and hot issues in interdisciplinary areas were presented
by bibliometric methods. The results also reflected the development of math interdisciplinary researches and
applications.

This paper presented a detailed description of math research domestically and abroad, which included
statistics and analysis of the output, hot subjects and subject distribution according to the Mathematics Subject
Classification used in math field worldwide. It also studied the percentage of the research papers funded by National
Natural Science Foundation of China during the year from 1993 to 2004. All of the data came from the American MR
CD (1993-2005/05) and the Chinese Mathematical Documentation Database (1994-2005).
